Beaver County History Celebration May 4th and 5th, 2013
This Year's Focus is: "The Home Front: After the Civil War" As a part of this year’s history celebration, a group of our county historical sites will be open to encourage students and adults to experience the vast history of Beaver County. The first list shows all sites that will be open for public visitation on Saturday and the second shows those sites open on Sunday. In addition, the Community College of Beaver County will be hosting a Civil War display courtesy of the Heinz History Center. On Saturday, May 4th, the Community College of Beaver County will sponsor a bus trip which will leave their campus and travel to various historical sites within the county. Sites the bus will be visiting this year are: Heinz History Center's Civil War display at CCBC, Southside Historical Village, Saint Nicholas Chapel, Richmond Little Red Schoolhouse, Beaver Falls Historical Society and Museum, Beaver County Genealogy and History Center and the Larry Bruno Hall of Achievement. Cost for the trip is $30 and a light lunch at Seven Oaks will be included. Deadline for registration is April 26, 2013. To make reservations call; 724-480-3575.

Beaver Area Heritage Museum - They will feature a display of modern train dioramas covering the main floor of the Museum. This exhibit will delight both young and old alike. Little Beaver Historical Society Complex - The organization oversees five buildings. On this weekend, LBHSC will feature "When Johnny Comes Marching Home." Monaca Community Hall of Fame - They will feature exhibits on the Pennsylvania and Lake Erie Railroad and the businesses that were attracted by the establishment of the railroad. Southside Historical Village - The "Home Front" typically existed after the Civil War. The village will depict the late 1800's will show the efforts of what it took for the country to heal after the war, and to get back to a more normal and peace-filled life. Vicary Mansion – Beaver County Historical Research & Landmarks Foundation - Life on the Home Front after the Civil War: Daily tools such as laundry using lye soap and wooden tubs, cooking over and open hearth fireplace, history and demonstrations of quilts made in the 1860's and general household sewing.
